Nathalie de Vries

GENERAL INFORMATION

Nathalie de Vries is a Dutch architect, urban planner, and educator, best known as one of the founding partners of MVRDV, the internationally renowned architecture and urban design practice established in 1993. Born in 1965 in Appingedam, she studied architecture at Delft University of Technology and has played a leading role in shaping contemporary architecture through innovative and socially engaged design.

De Vries is recognized for her focus on creating adaptable building typologies, sustainable urban environments, and high-quality public spaces. Her work explores how architecture can strengthen the relationship between people, communities, and their surroundings. Through MVRDV, she has contributed to numerous influential projects around the world, including housing developments, cultural institutions, educational buildings, and large-scale urban masterplans.

In addition to her architectural practice, De Vries has had a significant impact on architectural education and public policy. She serves as Professor of Architectural Design at Delft University of Technology and has held several influential positions, including Chair of the Dutch Association of Architects (BNA) and City Architect of Groningen. Her contributions to architecture have earned her international recognition, including honorary fellowships from both the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

Nathalie de Vries is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in contemporary Dutch architecture, combining innovative design thinking with a strong commitment to social and environmental responsibility.
