Grotius Towers

Two residential towers designed by MVRDV for developer Provast have transformed the area around The Hague Central Station. The Grotius Towers, measuring 120 and 100 metres high, provide 655 rental apartments, including 114 social rental homes and 295 mid-market rental units. Their central location combines high-density living with direct access to public transport.

The towers are characterised by their distinctive stacked crowns, where terraces create a village-like landscape above the city. By carefully shaping the buildings, MVRDV preserved existing routes, introduced new public spaces, and created a dynamic silhouette that changes from different viewpoints.

The design combines natural stone façades with sustainable bamboo composite elements, gas-free homes, energy-efficient systems, and extensive bicycle parking. Every apartment has access to outdoor space through balconies, loggias, or rooftop terraces.

Beyond housing, the Grotius Towers contribute to the wider transformation of the area east of The Hague Central Station. They act as a catalyst for further densification, improved public space, and the future greening of the neighbourhood.
